PBS series The Winemakers TV ~ the winemaker
reality TV Series I auditioned for.
This is about the casting call or audition for Doc City PBS "The Winemakers" reality television (experiencial) series to air in the Spring of 2007 Will I be chosen to make wine on T.V.? On May 2, 2006, I participated in a casting call for a PBS special series, produced by Doc City Productions that is currently being called 'The Winemakers'. It will be a competition between 6 people who will be selected from a variety of casting calls all over the world. We will be competing for the honor of launching our own wine label. I don't know yet if I've made it to the next phase of selection, but can't wait to find out. If my friend Tony hadn't mentioned it to me, I probably would never have known I might be able to be considered. My friend Paul had been in town to visit his parents and we had been spending time together with some of our friends. 
Among them were Tony and Kim. Tony has been a life long
friend of Paul and mine. It goes back to 1975 when we were all in different garage bands playing around the county.
Paul was the guitar/keyboardist in 'Stark Raving Mad', Tony was the drummer singer in 'Assault' and I was the keyboardist in a band called 'The $27 Snap On Face'.
During one of the parties Tony and Kim came to, he asked if I had seen the San Francisco Chronicle the other day (Januray 26, 2006) where the 'Wine Business Insider' had mentioned there would be a casting in San Francisco for a PBS reality show on wine making. I hadn't and asked him if he could send me the article. It arrived a few days later. This is what it said...
On the day before the audition I got a from Jennifer J (JJ) Levine, the shows producer asking if planned on making it to the casting call. You can hear that message here. At 2:00PM, I called her back... *and* got a hold of her. That was Monday May 1st. The casting call was definitely an experience. I have written about it in some detail here. I even shot some video of the building and people at the call that day. It's in MPEG format on the casting page. It will work in any browser, no plug in needed. On the way home, I thought about how un-likely it is I will be chosen. But also how original my idea is of the "Wine Romance" show, (see questions and answers, question 5). I am more interested in the wine industry hearing this industry marketing concept and decided to email JJ Levine directly to offer the idea to her. My hope is that she would present it to the Paso Robles wine industry or to perhaps use it to work on promoting 'the Winemakers' on the Food Network directly. The email I sent her can be seen by clicking here. I didn't get a response but I just *know* she read it...that Friday night when she got back to the East Coast.
