A Country Garden in the City
The house is located on one of two adjoining parcels,
with a common garden area. The other house is where Frank, the rental owner, resides. If you need anything at all, you may contact him or Melinda next door.
Come straight over, or phone us at the number from the contact sheet on the desk.
The back
garden area is a charming and casual country-style
garden with flowers, seasonal fruits, seasonal vegetables, and herbs. There is a shared patio area with smoke cooker and backyard grill for outdoor cooking. The
back deck is screened with plants to give you a private outdoor seating
area overlooking an herb garden, raised vegetable beds and a soon to be
grape arbor. We are in the process of reworking this area. We have removed
an old wild plum tree and will be setting up garden seating beneath a
simple grape arbor with a view back through the long vegetable garden area
of the property. We have some bare ground now and anticipate construction
of the arbor structure in the early Spring.
If you find yourself visiting us during the summer and fall,
we invite you to share in our organic, home-grown fruits and vegetables. Each year we plant tomatoes, peppers, zucchini and beans and enjoy fresh foods during the
summer and fall months. We also have a variety of fruit trees
producing at various times of the year which you are also welcomed to enjoy. In the back gardens
you'll find Meyer Lemons (usually year-round), Bearss Limes (late summer), Peaches (mid-end July), Black Figs (fall), Orange and Tangelo (winter-spring)
and soon Avocado. If you would also like some Italian Prune Plums
(late summer) or Bartlett Pears (late summer-fall)
please let us know and will gather some from the front garden. (see
property map).
We make wine for our own pleasure and during the months
of August through October or November, you may be able to participate in some wine-making activities. Much of this occurs on the patio off the deck which is a
cool low area between the houses. This is a fun and memorable experience. We typically make two varietals each year and bottle the previous vintages as appropriate
just before harvest. If you wish to participate or observe, contact us to find out what we have planned and when.
