Where to shop

When guests first arrive they almost always ask us one of two questions; sometimes both. "Where can we get something to eat?" and "Where can we shop for food?". Well, we've got a full page on restaurants we recommend which we find guests use frequenlty. Here are our suggestions for shopping for food.

We do love to promote local businesses and local products, so here are our favorite places in the area to buy food. Many also sell foods that are grown locally.

Food
Within Walking Distance
Community Market - 1899 Mendocino Ave, Santa Rosa - 707-546-1806 - Vegetarian natural food store. Excellent layout with full range of non-meat products. They do have dairy products. Each produce item is labelled with the name of the producer/grower. It's a wonderful worker run business.

Short Drive
Molsberry's Market - 4754 Old Redwood Hwy Santa Rosa, CA 95401 (707) 546-0307 - Locally owned market with local meats, full amazing deli, great seafood, good wine selection, huge cheese department and excellent produce.

Pacific Market - 1465 Town & Country Drive Santa Rosa - (707) 546-3663 - Very expensive pricing, but interesting for the gourmet cook/foodie.

Martindale's Quality Meats & Deli - 5280 Aero Dr Santa Rosa - (707) 545-0531 - Local family with a reputation for very high quality meats. I've been told they purchase many of the 4H animals after the county fair. Never a disappointment, the house-made sausages are incredible. One of the few local butchers still in business and the reason is apparent as soon as you take a bite.

Oliver's Market - 560 Montecito Center, Santa Rosa - 707-537-7123 or 461 Stony Point Road, Santa Rosa - 707-284-3530 - Again, a bit pricey, but a nice selection. A great alternative to Whole Foods because it's locally owned and operated.

Slightly further, but within 15 minutes
Andy's Produce - 1691 Gravenstein Highway - Sebastopol - 707-823-8661 - We can't say enough good about this place. A firm commitment to locally produced products, especially amazing fruits during the summer. Huge organic foods section with foods that don't look like they travelled any distance to arrive at this destination. Also a wonderful selection of about everything you can think of in the bulk foods areas. Full market with some fresh cured type meats and some frozen uncured meats. Vegetarian and vegan options in the canned/frozen foods sections. This is an open-air market.

There are a couple of Trader Joe's Markets and a Whole Foods market as well if you prefer not to shop with local merchants. Just ask us for directions.

Wine & Spirits
Bottle Barn - 3331 A Industrial Drive, Santa Rosa - 707-528-1161 - Local owners have extensive knowledge of wine and spirits. You will find very unique and very popular selections. Absolutely the best place to buy interesting wines from all over the world. Outrageously good pricing on everything.
